Aberth, S. L. "Latin American Art: La
Belleza y La Fuerza". April 25-June 8, 2001. The Elkon Gallery, Inc., New
York. Printed by John N. Jacobson & Son, Inc.
In
La Belleza y la Fuerza, their premier exhibition of Latin American art, The
Elkon Gallery provides a broad sampling of twentieth century works created
by renowned artist of great vision and scope. Modest in size with eighteen
pieces, the exhibition nevertheless encompasses a wide array of styles,
themes and movements, offering substantial insight title The Beauty and The
Strehgth …
Another large painting, the Cuban Agustìn
Bejarano's Imágenes en el Tiempo III (Images in Time, III) of 1997,
addresses issues of time and perhaps loss. Its cracked brown surface, like
the scorched earth, is interwoven with delicate pink roses while in the
center waivers a lone standing male figure, the Cuban revolutionary Josè
Martí. An homage to times past, with a melancholic bow to a troubled present
and an uncertain future, this poetic reverie resembles a crumbling wall in a
decaying Havana. |
